José Utreras, Outreach and Contents Coordinator of the Center for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA) gave a talk to students of the Liceo Bicentenario Monseñor Enrique Alvear.
As part of its scientific outreach program, the Center for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA) took the talk “The Origin of the Elements”, given by José Utreras, Outreach and Contents Coordinator of the Center, to the community of Pudahuel.
The activity was aimed at high school students of the Liceo Bicentenario Monseñor Enrique Alvear, who participated enthusiastically in an instance that sought to bring the concepts of astrophysics to the school classroom. During the exhibition, they discussed how the atoms that make up our bodies and the environment we inhabit were formed, from the processes that occurred in the stars to the chemical evolution of the Universe.
“We got them to ask questions about how the stars and the Universe have slowly ‘cooked’ the atoms that make up our bodies and the world we know,” commented José Utreras after the talk, highlighting the interest generated by the content among the students.
The event was possible thanks to the direct contact between the school and the CATA outreach team, who seek to strengthen the links between the scientific and educational community through accessible and stimulating activities. The teacher of the Liceo Bicentenario Monseñor Enrique Alvear, Sandra Quiroz, valued the visit of our Center.
“The importance of centers like CATA approaching schools for science education is invaluable for students and for the entire educational community. We appreciate very much this instance where we can have access to renowned scientists and astronomy professionals, and we value it in the sense that it is also an inclusive activity. We are very grateful to have had the presence of astronomer José Utreras”, said the teacher.
