CATA brought science and the history of the Universe to Lo Prado neighborhoods

In an activity organized by the “Science in the Neighborhood” Program of this commune, there were workshops, lectures and exhibitions for more than a thousand neighbors.

With a dynamic and didactic tour through the history of extragalactic astronomy, Daniela Barrientos, astronomer of the Center for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA) and postdoc at the Catholic University, discussed how humanity came to assume that it is not the center of the Universe and, therefore, that there are many more galaxies like ours.

This talk was given as part of the Science in the Neighborhood program in the district of Lo Prado, organized by Explora RM Norte, the Undersecretariat of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, the Municipality of Lo Prado and the Undersecretariat of Crime Prevention.

The objective of this initiative was to generate a neighborhood intervention for the promotion and dissemination of science in the Eduardo Frei population sector, in order to have a positive impact on the community.

This event was attended by more than a thousand people, who also enjoyed workshops, stands and exhibitions with scientific samples from schools, universities and institutions to bring science and knowledge to neighbors of all ages in Lo Prado.

In addition, the activity coincided with the Science Festival 2024, organized by the MinCiencia between October 3 and 6 with more than two hundred free public activities throughout the country, in several of which CATA researchers and astronomers also participated.
