In a new version of the activity organized by MinCiencia, our institution brought astronomy closer to families and children.
As part of the 2025 Science Festival, an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation, the Center for Astrophysics and Associated Technologies – CATA (ANID’s Basal Center) participated in activities held at the Mirador Interactive Museum (MIM), an event that brought together thousands of people around knowledge, curiosity, and scientific dissemination.
The event, attended by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, and the Minister of Science, Aldo Valle, highlighted the importance of knowledge as a tool for social transformation and equitable access to science as a driver of development for the country.
Our Center joined in this civic celebration with activities on lunar science and astronomical filters, aimed at promoting interest in astronomy among children, young people, and families. Its participation sought to strengthen the link between scientific research, innovation, and human development, contributing to the festival’s goal of bringing knowledge closer to the community.
Santiago Prat, General Manager (i) of CATA, praised the nature of this initiative and the opportunity to raise awareness of the work carried out by research centers in shaping a scientific culture within society.
“CATA’s participation in the 2025 Science Festival reinforces our commitment to bringing astronomy and technological innovation closer to people, both of which are very important for human development and the progress of the country. Through our activities, we seek to spark curiosity and create learning spaces that connect knowledge with its scientific and technological impact, promoting interest in science and innovation among new generations and highlighting their social benefits,” he said.
