CATA participated in the Winter Vacation program at the USACH Planetarium

The activity took place within the framework of the 40th anniversary of the Planetarium with scientific experiences for the whole family.

Between Tuesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 6, the Center for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA) was present at the Winter Vacation program organized by the Planetarium of the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH), offering the public a unique experience of scientific dissemination.

The CATA stand stood out for its interactive nature, including 3D prints of the Moon, a lunar puzzle and virtual reality glasses with images of space, elements that captured the attention of children and adults during the six days of activities.

CATA’s participation was possible thanks to the joint work of its team, with the participation of María José Jullian, Communications and Outreach Manager; José Utreras, Contents and Outreach Coordinator; Tracy Catalán, Outreach Analyst; Catalina Casanueva, Postdoctoral Researcher; Silvio Ulloa, Master’s student; and outreach monitors Jaime Castillo, Valentina Garrido and Marcela López.

Tracy Catalán, CATA’s Outreach Analyst, valued the work done during the week at the USACH campus. “As a team we are motivated to bring astronomy closer to people in a playful and accessible way. This participation in the Planetarium was a great opportunity to share our work with families and children, awakening their curiosity about the Universe through sensory and interactive experiences,” she said.

During the activity, CATA participated in the programming with which the USACH Planetarium commemorates its 40th anniversary by offering a varied lineup of films and immersive shows. In addition, attendees enjoyed scientific workshops, meteorite exhibition, children’s games, movies and food trucks, all designed to provide an unforgettable vacation around science and astronomy.
