Guillermo Blanc is an astronomer and Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Carnegie Institution for Science Observatories and Las Campanas Observatory, which the Carnegie Institution for Science operates in Chile. He earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 and previously a B.S. and M.S. in Astronomy from the University of Chile in Santiago. He also holds an Adjunct Professor position in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Chile. His research work focuses on the study of galaxy formation and evolution, and the development of infrastructure for astronomical observation. Blanc is also active in night sky protection and light pollution control. He has organized and given numerous conferences and outreach talks on the subject. He has also led and participated in working groups on light pollution in the Chilean Astronomical Society (SOCHIAS), the Ministry of Environment (MMA), and has been an advisor to the Office for the Protection of the Northern Chilean Sky (OPCC). Since 2019 he holds the position of President of the Fundación Cielos de Chile.
