Formation of Stars and Planets
  • Email: lperez@das.uchile.cl
In my research group we seek to understand the formation and evolution of planetary systems, to eventually understand the physical processes that formed our Solar System and the place we inhabit, our Earth. For this, we observe objects that were like the Sun and its planets when they were forming. These objects are called protoplanetary disks, which are disks of gas and solids orbiting nascent stars. To study the distribution of material in the disks, their chemical composition, and the presence of young planets, we used observations from different instruments, particularly the ALMA radio telescope and the VLT and Magellan telescopes located in the north of the country.
