Through the video game “Space Engine,” our Center was part of the activity organized by PAR Explora and the UC Faculty of Education.
The Center for Astrophysics and Asocciated Technologies (CATA) participated in the second edition of UC Open Campus, an initiative organized by PAR Explora RM Sur Oriente and the Faculty of Education of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, whose objective is to contribute to the training of students in practice and to the scientific and technological development of educational communities linked to the university.
During the event, CATA astronomers and science communicators José Utreras and Tracy Catalán gave immersive talks on the Solar System, using the astronomical software “Space Engine.” as a support tool. Through this experience, attendees explored different celestial bodies and understood astronomical phenomena through a visual and dynamic narrative.
“We took an immersive journey through the Solar System, using this video game where we built a story as we explored different objects: from the Sun, the inner planets, the moons of each one, to Pluto and Halley’s Comet,” explained Tracy Catalán.
The activity generated a lot of interest among the participants, who asked questions on various topics, such as black holes, nebulae, and pulsars.
CATA’s participation in UC Open Campus is part of its commitment to scientific outreach and strengthening the link between academia and the community, contributing to the formation of new audiences interested in science and the exploration of the cosmos.
