Cosmology and Galaxy Formation
  • Email: ggalaz@astro.puc.cl
Research in galaxy formation and evolution. In recent years it has focused on the study of diffuse galaxies, in particular, the giant spiral galaxies of low surface brightness, a very enigmatic type of galaxies that despite their size form virtually no stars, and about which there are still a number of outstanding questions. For example, what physical mechanism prevents the formation of stars in them, is it really due to the lack of gas in them, and what is the volumetric density in the universe of this type of galaxies? Other areas of interest are infrared astronomy, the distribution of galaxies in the universe and the statistical properties of this distribution.
