Successful entrepreneurship and innovation meeting organized by RedGT in Valparaíso

Within the framework of Tech Horizon Valparaiso, topics such as the impact and challenges of artificial intelligence for economic development were discussed.

The first day of Tech Horizon Valparaiso, a meeting organized by the Network of Technology Managers of Chile (RedGT), together with the APTA Hub and the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, was held at the university.

This meeting sought to strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of the Valparaíso Region. This is aimed at generating multidisciplinary collaboration networks, learning about successful experiences, exchanging knowledge and developing best practices in this area.

The Center for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA) participated with the presence of Elise Servajean, general manager of the Center, Santiago Prat, in charge of the Technology Transfer area, and Katherine Santos, technology manager.

“For technology managers it is of utmost importance to always be discovering and learning from global technological trends, in order to be able to connect early on with local capabilities and technologies that can respond to new industry challenges or take advantage of opportunities to generate, install and transfer innovative solutions that promote development opportunities for the country with a scientific base, On this occasion we were able to learn first-hand about solutions in the field of artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and solutions for climate change which, given their incipient nature at a global level, represent unique opportunities to position the good science that is done in Chile in applications that have an impact on society”, he said. The event took place in various formats, with talks by national and international experts, networking spaces, exhibitions that highlighted the main trends in cutting-edge technologies and presented the challenges and trends that can be addressed through innovation.

“As RedGT we are very pleased to have brought together representatives of different institutions with a leading role in the innovative ecosystem of the Valparaiso Region, which shows the interest in holding events of this type, which seek to boost economies through innovation and technological development. This is something that moves us and has moved us during our more than ten years of experience. We will continue on the same path, as we firmly believe in the synergies that are generated when collaboration is one of the pillars of our initiatives”, she said. Cecilia Belmar, RedGT Director.

This first day of Tech Horizon Valparaiso provided early guidance to young talents, guiding them to become entrepreneurs in disciplines such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing and biotechnology, in order to achieve instances of economic development applicable in areas such as agriculture, viticulture, tourism, transportation and the pharmaceutical industry, among other sectors.

For example, Patricio Gutiérrez, from Cycle Momentum, a Canadian innovation and acceleration platform, gave a keynote speech entitled “Challenges and opportunities for the entrepreneurial ecosystem in AI and climate solutions”. In this presentation he explained how artificial intelligence has directly impacted technology management processes in the Cleantech and Climatech industry and other ecosystems in Canada.

In this Tech Horizon Valparaíso, emphasis was also placed on programs that favor the industry, such as the presentation “Open innovation to promote the development of AI-based solutions”, given by Sebastián González, from Wayra Movistar.

Also, details of the second quantum revolution and the development of Sequre Quantum, with its CEO Paulina Assmann; successful experiences such as the startup Wise CX, told by Daniela Manzano; and analysis of regulatory issues surrounding AI, explained by Catherine Muñoz, a lawyer at Idónea Consultores.

Finally, the meeting closed with a panel entitled “AI for the future of Chile: challenges and opportunities in a changing world”, where the rapporteurs of the event, together with the academic Nicolás Rojas Morales, an expert in artificial intelligence and data science from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, discussed the implementation of these technologies and their impact on industry and society.

The activity was also attended by regional authorities, such as the director of Corfo Valparaíso Etienne Choupay, the entity that finances the activity through the “Viraliza” instrument together with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Due to the success of this meeting, the attendees and members of RedGT said they were looking forward to the two remaining days of Tech Horizon Valparaíso, which will be held on October 10 and 11.
