CATA opens call for applications for the 2026 CATA PhD Award, which will recognize the best doctoral thesis

The initiative aims to highlight the scientific excellence and impact of the research conducted by young researchers affiliated with the Center. Applications will be accepted through August 22, 2026.

The Center for Astrophysics and Associated Technologies – CATA (a project funded by ANID) announced the opening of the call for nominations for the 2026 CATA PhD Award, an initiative that seeks to recognize the scientific excellence, originality, and impact of doctoral dissertations written by researchers who have been affiliated with the Center.

This recognition is part of CATA’s commitment to strengthening cutting-edge research and training outstanding researchers, while promoting the development of work that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in astronomy, astrophysics, and related disciplines.

“The CATA PhD Award reflects our commitment to developing advanced human capital and recognizing the work of those who have contributed to the Center’s scientific development. Through this initiative, we seek to highlight outstanding research that, in addition to expanding the frontiers of knowledge, demonstrates the potential of new generations to tackle the scientific challenges of the future,” says Patricia Tissera, Director of CATA.

Researchers who have been affiliated with the Center and who have earned a doctoral degree within the dates specified in the guidelines are eligible to apply. For this edition, theses successfully defended between November 1, 2024, and July 31, 2026.

The application process will take place exclusively through the Official Application Portal, where applicants must complete the form and attach the required documentation as specified in the official rules of the award.
