Our Center participated in a new edition of the Congreso Futuro en tu Comuna, held at the Clinical Hospital of the Universidad Católica.
As part of a new edition of Congreso Futuro en tu Comuna, an initiative carried out by the Chilean Senate and the Challenges of the Future Commission, the Center for Astrophysics and Associated Technologies (CATA) (ANID Basal Center) took part in a new version of this activity, held at the Clinical Hospital of the Universidad Católica – UC Christus.
The event aimed to introduce the concepts of astrophysics and robotics to patients and staff at the Hospital School and the hospital’s pediatric oncology department. CATA participated by leading the workshop “Create Your Nebula,” so that children could learn about these objects in space in a fun and entertaining way.
The CATA team was made up of astronomers and educators from the Center, José Utreras and Tracy Catalán. “It was a great initiative and a great experience to be able to create our nebulae together with them. It is also necessary to be able to bring fun scientific activities to places like hospitals, not only to learn about science, but also to provide an entertaining activity,” said Utreras.
The UC Clinical Hospital believes that this science and astronomy initiative will benefit hospital staff and patients. “It allows for greater equity for patients with chronic diseases, giving them access to good education, experience, and the technology being developed by innovators and science communicators in our country,” said Juan Carlos Pattillo, medical director of UC Christus.
CATA’s participation in this activity reinforces its role as a bridge between cutting-edge research and society, bringing knowledge about the universe to different audiences and institutions.
