CATA researchers appointed as Full Professors at Universidad Andrés Bello

Timo Anguita and Sandro Villanova were recognized with the highest academic rank awarded by a university institution.

The astronomers and Associate Researchers of the Center for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA), Dr. Timo Anguita and Dr. Sandro Villanova were appointed Full Professors of the Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB), the highest academic hierarchy within the university teaching career. Both researchers have developed an outstanding career in research, human capital formation, academic management and scientific dissemination.

The recognition was awarded during a ceremony led by the rector of UNAB, Julio Castro, in which the sustained commitment, academic excellence and impact of the new tenured professors on the development of higher education in Chile were valued. The event was also an opportunity to share experiences, strengthen ties and highlight the value of merit and perseverance in the university environment.

For Dr. Timo Anguita, achieving this rank “symbolizes recognition of my career not only as a researcher, teacher and trainer of human capital, but also of my work in academic and scientific management and dissemination”. He also emphasized that this achievement implies fulfilling demanding requirements, such as the formation of doctors, a record of outstanding productivity and a marked recognition at national and international level.

In the same line, Dr. Sandro Villanova, this appointment represents a relevant milestone in his career: “It is very important for me, as it represents a recognition of my commitment to research, teaching, administration and the dissemination of astronomical knowledge to the community,” he said.

Both researchers agreed that this advance in their careers also brings visibility to the work carried out by CATA, consolidating its role as one of the main scientific centers that develops research, but also generates technology transfer in the country.
